What is And Elsewhere?

Lake Champlain – Burlington, Vermont.

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharial Nehru

The idea of travelling is rather strange when you think about it; completely uprooting oneself from everything one knows and landing in a new unfamiliar environment. At the same time, the idea of travel is entirely intoxicating; at least that’s what we think at And Elsewhere. And Elsewhere is a spin on the travel blogging world. At And Elsewhere we want to bring you, our viewer, on our travels with us to the greatest extent that we can.

In order to do this, And Elsewhere is a series of visual and mental stimuli. Through film, we will show you the beauty of life elsewhere, or perhaps where you live but with a different view. Many of our shots will seem objective; shots of scenery unadulterated by outside music but pertaining to original sounds. The idea of this is to help you, the viewer, feel what it is to experience these places. The only thing we can’t provide is the sense of bitter cold or heat, and perhaps various scents of cumin and flowers. In addition to film, And Elsewhere provides photo essays on points of interest and events in places, as well as short prose describing feelings and thoughts. We also provide practical information like what you should pack or be wary of when travelling.

As And Elsewhere continues to grow and develop we plan to expand to showing art, music and poetry to better display all the things we find beautiful in the world. In the future, we will have a forum you can tell your travel stories on and guest posts by fellow travellers. We will showcase musicians and artists we meet on our journeys through life and latitudes to expand their viewership and to show our viewers something we find beautiful.

We want to display the beauty of life and people around the world to the best of our best ability, and we hope to not disappoint.

Who are we?

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Benjamin Sperling‘s insatiable wanderlust began at a young age. He was born in Thailand, raised in Los Angeles and currently lives in Ottawa, Canada. As a child he had the amazing opportunity to travel to countries such as Japan and Malaysia as well as continuing annual trips to Thailand. He spent half a year studying oenology at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, and while in Europe he travelled to countries such as Italy and Germany. For the blog Benjamin writes posts and in the future he will display cinematic beauty through freelance filming. Benjamin is also a musician and is currently studying Music Industry Arts at Algonquin College.

Leia Carolyn has always dreamed of travelling the world, and now her journeys have begun. She was born and raised in the small Canadian island province of Newfoundland, later moving to Ontario upon high school. Leia has travelled much of the United States and Canada as well as Ireland, Italy, Thailand and Laos. Studying culture and how people live around the world surrounds Leia’s passion in life. She is also interested in the affect of the tourist on the places he or she visits and traditional medicines. For the blog she posts photos of life and beauty, as well as writing short posts and photo essays. Currently, she is in her third year of studies in her Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and Sociology at the University of Ottawa.

The Enlightened Traveller

When we travel we affect ourselves as well as other people around us. Here are some tips on how you can make sure you’re respecting the culture you’re visiting, and still having a good time.
